Cleanliness is a reflection of discipline, and at Bishop Secondary School Mukono, students are taking full ownership of this value through the Clean Campus Campaign. This initiative, led by the Health Prefects and supported by Class Monitors, aims to keep the school environment clean, safe, and inspiring.
Every Friday afternoon, students gather for campus-wide cleaning exercises — scrubbing dormitories, clearing walkways, cleaning classrooms, and managing waste disposal. It’s more than a task; it’s a culture.
“We want everyone to feel proud of where they learn,” says Joan, a Health Prefect in Senior Three. “When the environment is clean, the mind is clear too.”
The campaign began as a health initiative but has grown into a leadership and responsibility platform. Each class takes turns organizing cleaning teams and coming up with creative ways to beautify their surroundings — from planting flowers to repainting noticeboards.
The school has also introduced a “Cleanest Class of the Month” competition with prizes and recognition during weekly assemblies. This has encouraged consistency and enthusiasm among students.
Beyond cleaning, the campaign includes hygiene awareness sessions where learners are taught the importance of handwashing, personal hygiene, and sanitation. Posters around campus remind everyone that “Clean Hands Save Lives” and “Your Desk, Your Pride.”
The Clean Campus Campaign is creating a ripple effect — with students now carrying the habits of cleanliness into their homes and communities. It is yet another way Bishop’s is raising a generation that is not only smart but also socially responsible.
